About CGMA
The CGMA designation distinguishes professionals who have advanced proficiency in finance, operations, strategy and management. It is underpinned by extensive global research to maintain the highest relevance with employers, and develop competencies most in demand.
CGMAs qualify through rigorous education, exam and experience requirements. They must commit to lifelong education and adhere to a stringent code of ethical conduct.
More than 150,000 accounting and finance professionals hold the CGMA, making it the most widely held management accounting designation in the world.
The CGMA designation is open to anyone interested in business, finance and accounting who aspires to be a strategic leader and commits to the highest ethical standards.
The CGMA designation – Benefits.

Gives you the tools you need to succeed..
There are TWO PATHWAYS to becoming a CGMA designation holder, each with education, experience and assessments designed to build on your existing knowledge and career achievements:
- If you live in North America, Central America or South America, you will obtain the CGMA designation through the American Institute of CPAs and become an AICPA member. The CGMA Finance Leadership Program will support your efforts to meet the education, experience and assessment requirements.
- If you live in Europe, the Middle East, Asia/Pacific or Africa, you will obtain the CGMA designation through the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and become a CIMA member. As a CIMA student, you have a range of study options and support available to progress through the qualification and into membership.
Current CIMA members automatically qualify for the CGMA designation and current AICPA voting members have an expedited pathway to obtain the CGMA designation.
